Our Story

Emperor Gin was born from a love of bold flavour, timeless elegance, and uncompromising quality. We set out to create a range of classic and contemporary gins — perfect in a G&T, and exceptional in a cocktail.

Every bottle is distilled in small batches and infused with a curated blend of botanicals to deliver smoothness, depth, and complexity.

Our Distilling Partner

We proudly distil and bottle all our gins at Hope Distillery in Cape Town — the city's first licensed small-batch distillery. Since 2014, Hope has earned a reputation for exceptional spirits made with passion and precision.

The gins are crafted using Mouma and Mildred, the city's first pot stills ever licensed. With their help, the Hope team ensures each batch of Emperor Gin is smooth, refined, and flavourful.

How Our Gin is Made

We use a combination of maceration and vapour infusion to extract the full spectrum of flavour from our botanicals.

  • Maceration: Botanicals are steeped in high-strength neutral cane spirit, drawing out their oils and essence.
  • Vapour Infusion: More delicate ingredients are placed in a basket above the pot still, allowing their aromas to infuse as vapour passes through.

Once distillation is complete, the spirit is gently brought down to bottling strength and finished on site.

Our Botanicals

We source high-quality, often local ingredients, including:

Juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, lemon peel, lime leaves, cloves, cinnamon, honey, fennel — and, in our Gold Edition, post-distillation infusion with organic honeybush for warmth and structure.
